Today, February 28, 2012, the Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that alters the process whereby Air Taxi Operators obtain economic authority. Current regulations exempt Air Taxi Operators from certain provisions of the Federal Regulations and permit them to obtain economic authority by completing Form 4507. This form is available to the public in an electronic form, but the form must be printed and subseqently completed.
DOT is now proposing to amend this form to permit it to be completed electronically and saved for future amendment. However, even though this form would be filled out electronically, it would (1) still require original signatures and (2) would not be permitted to be filed electronically.
